Understanding Attitudes and Preferences

What are attitudes and preferences?

Attitudes and preferences are the user's feelings and opinions about your product or service, as well as their preferences for how they use it. This information can be helpful in understanding the user's needs and motivations, and in designing products and services that are appealing and easy to use.

How to identify attitudes and preferences

You can identify attitudes and preferences through a variety of methods, including:

  • User interviews

  • Surveys

  • User feedback

  • Observing user behavior

How to use attitudes and preferences in user personas

Once you have identified the user's attitudes and preferences, you can use this information to:

  • Design products and services that are appealing to the user

  • Make your product or service easy to use

  • Provide features and functionality that are relevant to the user's needs

  • Communicate with your users in a way that resonates with them

Example 1: if you are designing a new website, you may want to consider the attitudes and preferences of your target users when choosing the design, layout, and content of the website. You may also want to consider these factors when developing new features and functionality.

Example 2: imagine a 70-year-old woman living in a remote village with no access to a hospital. She has diabetes and needs regular checkups and medication. Her general attitude may be to show concern about her health and well-being. She is also grateful for the opportunity to age in her own home and community. She prefers to receive healthcare services in her own home or village. She also prefers to receive care from providers who are familiar with her culture and language.
